Confession: I don’t always leave a book unfinished, but when I do it’s for good reason. Unfortunately Uglies by Scott Westerfeld was one of these instances. Which is surprising because I’m the dystopian loving sister.

While the plot seemed like an intriguing concept, the story as a whole lacked a spark to keep my interest. I’ve enjoyed books with a predictable plot and I’ve found books with two dimensional characters entertaining, but the combination was hard to get past. Throw in conversations that were forced and relationships that were shallow and I just couldn’t do it.
I can only rate it up to page 432, so if the language turns or romance heats up after that I’d be surprised… for the first time when it comes to this book. -AB
