“Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. There, before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.
To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess, and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction.”
Red Queen has a lot of hunger game aspects, which is probably why I liked it so much, it’s got adventure and moves fast. I love go, go, go type action books. The violence like most dystopian novel’s got intense for me at times, but due to the fictitious nature it didn’t seem overwhelming.
It’s got an interesting love triangle, which unlike my sister I am a fan of. Maybe it goes back to my silly teen girl dream to have two boys interested in me at the same time…because come on how would that not be flattering. Though at times it made me want to smack Cal because you just don’t do that to your brother man! While at other times I had the “Oh, but they are made for each other!” The way the author pulls at your heart for both boys is so good.
Maybe my favorite thing about the book was how well the author was able to make you feel empathy for the bad guy at the same time you hate his guts, that to me makes an epic writer! This book gets a solid 4 stars from me -A.B.
